Paranormal Activity and the New Indie Market

Paranormal Activity is a small indie horror film that was made on an $11,000.00 budget. Blair Witch ring a bell? They are trying a new viral marketing strategy to increase hype for the film, and it seems to be working. On September 25th it was released in a few select cities. Paramount started an eventful page where you can demand the film to come to your city. The film is beginning to build up steam very quickly. This weekend, Paranormal Activity expanded to 33 cities. END:CIV

END:CIV is a film that examines our culture’s addiction to systematic violence and environmental exploitation, and probes the resulting epidemic of poisoned landscapes and shell-shocked nations. Based in part on Endgame, the best-selling book by Derrick Jensen, END:CIV asks: “If your homeland was invaded by aliens who cut down the forests, poisoned the water and air, and contaminated the food supply, would you resist?” END:CIV is currently in production.

A Golden Opportunity (Filmaka)

Filmaka.com was founded by two people, Deepak Nayar and Thomas Augsberger. Both are active producers in the film industry and have a good list of sets the have been on, which can be found here, and here. Nayar has a particular ability for nurturing new talent and has been behind the directorial debuts of a number successful directors including William Jennings, Mahesh Mathai, and Matt Dillon. Stop Emissions (Victoria’s Critical Mass)

A two minute environmental mini documentary about stopping green house gas emissions. Shot on location in Victoria, British Columbia. Originally shot for a Discovery Channel film short contest. Kyle and I interviewed Sean Brookes, an attendee of the growing Critical Mass movement. He talked to us about comradery, the commute, emissions, and the need for increased bike infrastructure.
