Sorry about the hiatus, Coast Media Collective has been busy behind the scenes on a number of projects. Expect a lot more fresh and exciting content to be up soon. In the mean time, be sure to check out the first episode of the Collective Voice Podcast, a collaborative new project with Union Sound System. Chris ‘Okibi’ was fortunate enough to be able to sit down for an intimate chat with Toronto house legend, DJ JELO, when he came through Victoria near the end of last year. We may transcribe the audio and include a few anecdotes from that evening in the future, but for now be sure to check out the audio feed at our Podcast page. Many more episodes are in the works, and Collective Voice should be available on iTunes shortly. Big things in the works – keep it locked!

Hot off some fresh cuts with Swollen Members, Young Kazh has been generating a solid following with his mixtapes for more than a few years. AFL – Reggae Refixes [Free Download]

Here’s some exclusive dubstep remixes from AFL, the man behind the immensely popular Smoke Sessions mix series (which has reached over 88,000 downloads worldwide via Mininova.) Expect a full interview with the man himself very soon. For now here’s some stripped-down, dubby refixes of Tanya Stephens’ It’s A Pity and Capleton’s Day Me Borne. Don’t sleep on this one!

Combining dub, downtempo, hip hop, drum and bass, house, and breakbeat, AFL pushes sounds both old and new to create an eclectic and unique audio experience. Formerly known as Azrael, AFL originally hailed from Victoria, BC, but currently resides in Vancouver, where he has been laying low and perfecting his cross genre blend. These days AFL has been heavy on the dubstep tip, creating bass laden mixes such as his “Smoke Sessions” Compilations. Be on the look out for new mixes and original productions, AFL is sure to be making moves in 2009 and beyond.

The Proxy – Raven (Evol Intent Remix) [Free Download]

Evol Intent, the triad of father/son/holy spirit comprised of the king of new disco Treasure Fingers, Computer Club and Ludachrist, headed out all together on a tour of these United States last week, continuing from now until right around Thanksgiving. In honor of the jaunt, the guys have released this new treatment of “Raven”, the fantastic club track from Russia’s The Proxy. The edit is a super dark and dubby three-and-a-quarter minutes of sinister drums and synths and the cinematic squeal calling card that the original “Raven” was identified by.
